Rapper Andre 3000 Arrested For Driving Porshe 109 MPH

Revered Atlanta rapper Andre 3000 was arrested outside of Atlanta on Saturday (March 28), for driving his 2007 Porsche Carrera at speeds so excessive police called him “an accident waiting to happen.”

According to a report by local ABC-affiliate WSB-TV Monday afternoon (March 30), the Grammy Award winning rapper/actor was arrested by a member of the Henry County Police Department’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic Team early Saturday morning.

The officer stated that he clocked Andre 3000, born Andre Benjamin, at 109 mph, 44 mph over the 65 mph speed limit along that stretch of I-75.

Benjamin was arrested for the danger he posed to other drivers.

“Traveling that fast along 75, you’re passing people as if they’re standing still,” explained Henry County Police Captain Jason Bolton. “It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

The arrest comes as State Representative Jim Cole is lobbying for a new Super Speeder Bill to be passed in the state of Georgia.

The law would impose an additional $200 fine for any driver stopped for driving at more than 85 miles an hour on highways and four-lane roads. Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue has indicated his support of the bill, which he intends to sign into law before summer.

Representative Cole stated that he hopes Benjamin will lend his support to the cause.

“He might be willing to help us market it,” Cole told WSB-TV.

The Outkast co-founder was released after posting an unspecified bond amount.

He is scheduled to appear in court to face charges associated with the incident on April 29.

At press time, representatives for Andre 3000 could not be reached for comment.

On Sunday (March 29), Benjamin wrapped up a live revival of his award-winning cartoon “Class of 3000,” which made a comeback as a stage play earlier this month.

The play, based on the short-live Cartoon Network Series’ pilot episode, “Life Without Music,” was presented for a month-long run as a partnership between Andre 3000 and the Alliance Theater in Atlanta.

According to Andre, who hopes to bring the play to schools around the country, he wanted to create an experience that would encourage kids to explore music beyond what is offered by the mainstream.

"I wanted to make sure it wasn't the teenybopper, kiddie sounds or stupid songs," he told the Associated Press. "I wanted to introduce them to different styles of music I was introduced to. From funk to jazz to calypso music, just to let them know there's a base from what they are hearing now."

Despite great critical acclaim and a 2007 Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Animation, “Class of 3000” was cancelled in early 2008.

The decision to bring the show to live came shortly there after, at the request of the Alliance Theater’s director Rosemary Newcott, who told the Associate Press it was a “no-brainer” because of Benjamin’s impact through the show.

"The whole spirit of this show is infused with him, with his sense of humor and his love for music," she raved. "That's a valuable trait that draws people in."

Eminem, Dre and 50 Cent Shoot New Video In Las Vegas

Hip-Hop's most popular trio are preparing for a full fledged return to the rap game.

Rappers Eminem and 50 Cent, along with producer/rapper Dr. Dre, shot a video for the first single from Em's upcoming album The Relapse.

The trio shot scenes for the video inside of The Palms Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Representatives for Interscope remained mum about the title for the first official single from Eminem's highly anticipated album, his first in four years.

Reps did confirm that the video would hit airwaves and the Internet on April 7.

Additionally, Eminem who has sold over 75,000,000 records, has announced a follow-up album, The Relapse 2, will hit stores before the end of 2009.

"A lot of people we're expecting Relapse to drop last year," Eminem told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned out to be six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff."

The first single from Eminem's album The Relapse was "Crack The Bottle," which shot to #1 in iTunes' charts, with over 415,000 downloads the first week.

The Relapse is due in stores May 19 on Interscope/Aftermath/Shady.

Kanye West Surprises South By Southwest

Kanye West took over the annual South by Southwest music conference and festival as he performed twice Saturday to enthusiast crowds, when not even on the set list of performers.

The festival, which takes place in Austin, Texas, has historically been a stage for lesser known acts, but Kanye used his fame to impress and promote his G.O.O.D. Music label acts. 'Ye took the stage under a tent at a party sponsored by Fader magazine and Levi Jeans in a spur of the moment decision.

West also appeared to be having as much fun as his fans as he yelled, “It feels so good to rock for you tonight.” Kanye played numerous tracks from The College Dropout [click to read] as he mentioned Fader was the first magazine to put him in a cover spread.

The concert was streamed online and included 'Ye’s Universal Records-cosigned talents, Consequence [click to read] and Kid Cudi who dropped his hit "Day N Nite." Some old friends, Common [click to read] and Erykah Badu helped Kanye close out the party among thousands of ecstatic fans.

Later in the evening, Kanye showed up as Perez Hilton’s party north of Austin in an old grocery store. 'Ye voiced his respect for Perez, who rules the gossip blog world, as he rocked the stage unaccompanied. The party was one of the bigger events at the SXSW festival.

British rapper Lady Sovereign, who was set to perform, cancelled right before the show, but Kanye’s performance redeemed the set list for Perez.

Unreleased Beyonce Track Acquired In Death Row Auction

An unreleased Beyonce track is reportedly among the 10,000 songs that were acquired in the auction of Deathrow Records earlier this year.

Death Row was auctioned off for $18 million to WIDEawake Entertainment Group in January.

The initial reports of the auction only mentioned that unreleased tracks by former Death Row artists including 2Pac and Dr. Dre were acquired but Wideawake's John Payne recently revealed to Reuters that a Beyonce track was also picked up.

Payne, who was a producer/engineer for Death Row, serves as the senior vice president for WIDEawake Entertainment.

Payne revealed that he has reached out to Beyonce and other artists whose songs were acquired to work out appropriate contracts.

"There's so much exquisite material that never saw the light of day," Payne said. "These are artists that would love to see their material released, and I'm sure they want to get paid for what they've done."

Payne also revealed that he has been working with 2Pac's family to drop 13 of the rapper’s unreleased 40 songs they acquired. They are also working on song placements and synch deals with MTV and other TV and film companies.

WIDEawake are also developing a film about singer Marvin Gaye and a graphic novel that will involve the Death Row catalogue.

Suge Knight, the founder of Death Row Records, lost control of the label after filing for bankruptcy in 2006.

Kid Cudi To Retire After First Album

Rap longevity apparently isn’t on Kid Cudi’s 10-year plan. Per a blog entry written on kidcudi.com, the New York-based rapper (by way of Cleveland) will call it quits after his first album drops. A part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music family, CuDi appeared on Yeezy’s 808s & Heartbreak, has been touring with the superstar and recently released a video for his smash hit, “Day ‘N’ Nite.” But Cudi’s current success has apparently taken as toll on him.

“After the release of my first LP this summer, I am not making any more solo albums,” he wrote in all caps. “I am falling back on being an artist. The drama that comes with it is more overwhelming than the shit I was dealing with when I was piss poor broke.”

“My friends get mad at me, say I’ve changed,” he continued. “One of the only homies I got in this game, Wale, is worried about me ’cause of shit he hears. Like, WTF? Who can say I’m being Hollywood? I’m not around anyone but Plain Pat and Emile. Who can say that shit? Motherfuckas talkin’ shit here and there, spreadin’ rumors, makin’ jokes, tryin’ to judge me, and for what?”

Cudi, who recently signed with Universal Motown, plans to drop the mic to focus on his acting career. He’s already set to star in How to Make It in America, an HBO comedy pilot following three twentysomethings trying to make it in the big apple. Shooting for the series, which will be executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, starts in August. There’s no word on when Cudi’s solo debut, Man on the Moon: The Guardians, will hit stores.

Detroit rapper Trick Trick was reportedly shot at a local night club Sunday night (March 16)

According to The Detroit Free Press, Trick Trick was shot in the thigh after a fight broke out at the Esko Lounge. Police also revealed that another man was shot in the left arm.

Both men are expected to recover and no arrests have been made.

Tupac ‘One Nation” Project Set for Official Release

After 13 years of speculation and legal wrangling, the late Tupac Shakur’s dream of musically uniting the East and West Coasts has become a reality with the release of his ambitious One Nation album.

The opus was originally conceived by Tupac in 1996, after he witnessed the media and fan fallout of his personal feud with former friend The Notorious B.I.G.

Feeling that the issue had caused unnecessary tension between entire coasts, Tupac reached out to respected Brooklyn collective Boot Camp Clik to release a joint project dispelling any media notion of a Hip-Hop civil war.

From Shakur’s California residence, the parties worked diligently on completing a full album in time for release the following year.

Because of Tupac’s unsolved September 1996 murder, tracks from the project were indefinitely shelved and remained in limbo for the next 13 years.

Now, label A.E.G. has acquired the rights for the 18-track LP, and will release One Nation as a digital-only album.

Guests assisting Tupac and Boot Camp on the project include Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Tha Outlawz, Big Daddy Kane, Greg Nice, and the Notorious B.I.G.

One Nation will be released on Friday March 20 through all major digital distributors such as iTunes and Amazon.

Tupac’s last posthumous album was 2006’s Pac’s Life.

This year, Shakur would have celebrated his 38th birthday.

New Chris Brown/ Rihanna Duet Confirmed

MTV reports:

A spokesperson for producer Polow Da Don has confirmed that Chris Brown and Rihanna have recorded a duet. According to CNN, the unnamed song was tracked with Don just days after Brown, 19, was charged with two felonies over his alleged February 8 altercation with girlfriend Rihanna, 21.

Don's publicist said the singers — who reportedly reunited at a home owned by Diddy in Miami two weeks ago — completed the song earlier this week, though no other details were available on the track. A spokesperson for Don did not return requests for comment on the song, and spokespeople for Brown and Rihanna have declined to comment about the sessions.

"My heart goes out to both Chris and Rihanna for what has happened in the past," Polow said in a statement. "They are both great artists to work with, and I wish them well."

Brown was charged with assault and making criminal threats on March 5 and is due back in court on April 6 for his arraignment in the case.

On Wednesday, Us Magazine reported additional details on the song, quoting an unnamed source describing it as having a theme "about being stronger and growing stronger in a relationship. ... The song was originally created for Rihanna before the fight. However, it wasn't initially slated for Chris to be on the song."

The source added: "The funny thing is, the song expresses the emotions that both Chris and Rihanna are feeling at this moment — facing challenges and overcoming the ups and downs of a relationship in which you become stronger." The singers were described as being "very playful" in the studio during the session.

A month before the alleged incident, MTV News reported that the couple, who have been very private about their yearlong relationship, had actually already worked on their first original track together. The song, "Bad Girl," which leaked in January, was recorded for the soundtrack to "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and was produced by Polow but ultimately didn't make the final cut for the album.

"I came from a Jerry Bruckheimer meeting after seeing the movie, and they were telling us all the music they needed for all the scenes and the characters," Polow told MTV about his sit-down with the movie's producer. "So that night, I went to the studio and I was telling Chris about [the meeting]. And he was like, 'Let's get on it.' It was crazy, because Jerry Bruckheimer's dream was to have a song from Rihanna (for the movie), and I delivered Rihanna and Chris Brown in 24 hours. So they were like, 'Wow, that's crazy.' "

In the song, Rihanna talks about her shopping addiction, her penchant for bags and shoes and her not-so-thrifty purchasing habits. "Need no bargain, need no sale/ I want the best, I dress me well," she sings. Brown chimes in with a rap about his better half toward the end of the track. "She's a walking store, I'm talking about her clothes/ I just pause, I'm in awe, 'cause she's a fashion show."

At the time, Polow praised Brown's energy and work ethic, as well as Rihanna's unique voice and easygoing attitude and said, "We actually did a lot more records that hopefully will be coming soon."

Actress Meagan Good Begins Recording Debut Album

From BallerStatus.com -- Although Meagan Good's main profession has been acting, it was recently revealed that she's been hitting the recording studio in-between long days on set.

The actress -- who's most recent films include "The Love Guru" and "Saw V" -- told Rap-Up.com that she's been recording for her debut album. However, she admitted the album is in the experiment stage.

"I've been recording some stuff here and there -- just experimenting, really focusing on getting up to par vocally," she said.

To get to that level, Good has been working on her voice, with a very high-profile producer -- The Dream. She says she's been working with the singer/songwriter for about two months.

As far as the kind of music the 27-year-old actress is going for: pop, not you're typical R&B sound most black singers would go after.

"I'm going for a more pop sound, actually. I did some stuff with some lesser-known producers," Good reveals.

According to Rap-Up, Good is still unsigned. But, she has been going into meetings with several labels, weighing her options. A title and release date was unknown at press time.

T.I. Initiative Aims to Remove Guns from Communities

Superstar T.I. and his K.I.N.G. Foundation have formed a coalition with the Political Swagger Foundation and C.H.A.N.G.E. Initiative to remove guns from urban communities.
The first stop for T.I. is Houston, where on March 14 the Atlanta native will host Responsibility Is a Lifestyle: Give Back Your Gun Day.
The event commences at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout the day, any person with an unregistered weapon will be able to turn in the firearm without fear of questioning, fines, or arrest.
The outreach program was enacted partly due to a recent sociological study by Northeastern University.
The results displayed that from 2002-2007, there was 31 percent increase in the murder rate for juvenile African-American males.
Of those murders, there was an increase of 41 percent in black male perpetrators.
Additionally, Northern University found that the numbers increased further when firearms were utilized.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the city of Houston has seen a reported 139 percent increase in the amount of young African-Americans suspected in gun murders.
T.I., who was convicted last year on several counts of possessing illegal firearms, referenced that his actions going forward will reflect a new spiritual consciousness.
“Instead of walking with guns, I now have to walk with God,” T.I. told AllHipHop.com in a statement.
Colleagues see that professed change in T.I., but Political Swagger Foundation co-founder Tonja Styles detailed the community must be willing to support his efforts.
“Every era of great change has had its music and the artists have always been at the forefront of that change; from John Lennon to Marvin Gaye,” Styles explained to AllHipHop.com. “Today, T.I. is using his influence to affect change and we’re excited to join him. The responsibility is on us.”
Later this month, T.I. will begin serving a one year sentence per his guilty plea on federal weapons charges.
The Give Back Your Gun Day begins this Saturday (March 14) at 11am.

is Tina Davis. Davis — who turns 40 this month — was rumored to have had a relationship with Brown when he was 16. Brown and Davis have denied it.

Law enforcement tells us the text message to Brown talked about hooking up later — and it totally pissed off Rihanna. She slapped and hit him and he then brutally fired back.

The detective’s affidavit refers to the text message as being “from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.”

Davis could not be reached for comment.

We don’t even know what to say about this twisted sh*t. This adds a whooooole new piece to the puzzle, y’all.

Diddy Explains Making Ready To Die, Sampling Approach

For his blog, Hooked On The American Dream [click here], New Jack City and Above The Rim writer Barry Michael Cooper sat down with Bad Boy Records CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs for a video interview titled Sean John Combs: Once Upon A Time In America.

Asked about early Bad Boy Records' producer Easy Mo Bee, often credited for honing Notorious B.I.G.'s sound, Diddy recalled, "I know we had got a tape of beats. These were just producers out there doin' their thing." "Mo Bee and Biggie, they kind of like gelled together." With Mo Bee having produced for Miles Davis, Big Daddy Kane and GZA through that point, Diddy added, "He was one of them up and coming producers that was just a real studio rat - in there, creating all the time.... he aesthetically, kind of went with our sound. He had these real unique drums; the snares were just stupid hard! The way that he would EQ everything... before there was Pro Tools and everything, it was SP-1200s and MPC 60s, and everybody had like their own sounds. People would create their own kicks and their own snares, and nobody else would have other people's sounds."

With Mo Bee producing Craig Mack's hit "Flava In Ya Ear" as well as seminal Biggie records, Diddy certified, "He had a soul to the way in which he played it and formatted it."

Looking at his own production approach, Diddy spoke about his knack. "I was big into my sampling thing. I would sample and touch joints that everybody else was afraid of because a lot of people didn't know how to make songs." He also addressed the controversial approach to taking full loops and basslines from hit records. "[Many producers' approach] was finding obscure samples; I wanted to find the sample that gave you that memory. I was a specialist, I would say, on picking the right memory - 'cause you can fuck around and pick the wrong memory."

1994's Ready To Die found Diddy (then Sean "Puffy" Combs) co-producing both singles "Juicy" and "Big Poppa," which sampled hits from Mtume and The Isley Brothers respectively.

Diddy contests though, "It was almost harder to make a hit out of a sample, 'cause you've got to make a hit out of a hit."

The Notorious B.I.G. was murdered 12 years ago today.

Major N.W.A. Biopic Reportedly In Pre-Production

After success from the recent Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious [click to read], New Line Cinema reps announced to Entertainment Weekly's "Hollywood Insider Blog" that N.W.A.'s story is in development to become a theatrical release. N.W.A. is credited as west coast rap pioneers between 1986 and 1991. The core group of founder Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren [click to read] and deejay Yella hailed from Compton, California and revolutionized the effect independent rappers challenged the mainstream with songs like "Fuck The Police."

The group abbreviated for "Niggaz With Attitude" disbanded shortly after Ice Cube left the group in 1990 over a financial dispute. Soon after, Dr. Dre would leave over similar reasons to co-found Death Row Records. Eazy E died tragically of AIDS in March, 1995. Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), popularly known by Biggie Smalls (after a fictional gangster in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again), and his primary stage name, The Notorious B.I.G., was an American rapper.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Wallace grew up during the peak years of the 1980s' crack epidemic and started dealing drugs at an early age. When Wallace released his debut album with the 1994 record Ready to Die, he was a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when hip hop was mostly dominated by West Coast artists. The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud, dominating the scene at the time.

On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc set Life After Death, released fifteen days later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000. Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Since his death, a further three albums have been released. Eminem Plans To Relapse, Twice This Year

In addition to announcing a concrete release date for his upcoming Relapse album, Eminem will also plan a following LP during the same calendar year. A video for the number one single, "Crack A Bottle" [click to listen] will be released on April 7, with the full Relapse album scheduled for a release on May 19.

"A lot of people were expecting 'Relapse' to drop last year," said Eminem. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. Movie Written In Jail By Tupac In Production

Tupac's posthumous discography is well-documented. Now, fans may receive a posthumous Tupac movie.

Titled Live 2 Tell, Tupac wrote a film screenplay during his prison stint in 1995 for sexual assault charges.

According to wooha.com, the story centers around a drug kingpin trying to leave the drug game. The script has been circulating in Hollywood since 2005, shopped by the late rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur.

The synopsis reads as follows: "A charismatic young man at the dawn of adulthood spirals down the wrong path in life and is brought into the underworld by his once trusted mentor, only to become one of the most powerful and feared kingpins in the city. Eventually his conscience gets the better of him and he is driven to self redemption in life… and love."

Currently, the rights to the movie are held with Insomnia Productions, producers of the HBO series "Rome."

The film is slated for what is being called a "very tentative" 2010 release.

Lil’ Wayne is officially off the hook for the painkillers and the weed cops say they found in Georgia — but dude is still up to his tattooed neck in legal problems. A Fulton County judge dismissed felony drug charges against Weezy yesterday after ruling he was the subject of an illegal search.

Wayne was arrested back in 2006 after Atlanta police said they found unmarked bottles of hydrocodone and Xanax along with two marijuana joints in a hotel room. Now that he’s in the clear in Georgia, Wayne can focus on the weapons charges in New York and felony drug charges in Arizona.
